On February 16, at approximately 11:49 am, the Sheriff’s Office received a report from a local subject, who claimed to have discovered what appeared to be a plane crash on a hillside north of Ely. Deputies responded and the reporting party led them to the scene. They discovered the wreckage of a small plane and the remains of two people. The victims were unable to be identified due to trauma resulting in the crash. The remains were transported to the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office, where they were identified as 72 year old Phillip Bethell and 66 year old Linda Bethell, both from Colorado. The FAA and NTSB responded and are also investigating the accident. At this time the cause of the crash is unknown, but the investigation continues.
