Take a Train Ride in Ely Nevada

Nevada Northern RailwayLooking for something unique to do in Ely, Nevada?

Look no further than the Nevada Northern Railway. This historic railway has it origins in the copper mining industry from as long ago as 1902. Today it is one cool ride across the wild west, and a once in a lifetime experience!

Regular trips are called excursion rides and are available from about mid-April to mid-October and cost $27 for adults, $16 for children, 3 years old and younger ride free. There are 2 routes from Ely to Ruth lasting about ninety minutes long, and from Ely to McGill also lasting about ninety minutes long. Rides are available on an original coal fueled, steam powered locomotive. This historic gem is better known as number 40. Or take a ride on an original diesel powered locomotave. Either way you ride, bring your camera, enjoy the scenery and have fun!

In addition to excursion rides on the Northern Nevada Railway, you can take a trip on The Haunted Ghost Train of Old Ely. This spooky train runs every weekend in October for about 90 minutes and is fun for the whole family. Local residents put on quite a show along the line and will even fill up your trick or treaters buckets! Tickets cost $32 for adults, $16 for children, 3 years and younger ride free.

The Polar Express TicketThe Nevada Northern Railways’ most memorable ride is their yearly Polar Express.

Families will enjoy a storybook experience complete with hot chocolate, jingle bells, a trip to the North Pole and even a visit from Santa Clause himself! Trips to the North Pole depart Ely several times per week between mid November to the end of December. Tickets cost $32 for adults, $16 for children, 3 years and younger ride free.
