The best part about this unique water complex is the water temperature. You can play all day without getting cold. The entire complex is temperature controlled with water from the natural hot springs. This spring boasts crystal clear water with no sulfur smell. The outside pool features high dives and diving platforms. There are two mild water slides for those who prefer an easy going ride. For those of us that like a lot of thrill, you can go cascading over the highway below to a straight down plunge. The indoor area of this complex houses a children’s water play park, a hot tub, and another pool with climbing walls and basketball hoops. The facilities are so nice and clean. The staff and lifeguards are there to keep you safe. However, fun is a major priority.
After getting in a day of fun at the complex, you can then stroll over to the relaxing hot pools. The pools range from 103-112 degrees. There are several large pools, and even on busy days, you are able to find a quiet corner to relax. This little resort town has a river that flows right down the heart of town. You can walk or bike the path that follows the river. If you are feeling adventurous, you can rent a tube and tube the river.
Lodging in Lava Hot Springs varies from adult only five-star bed and breakfast facilities, to simple family friendly motels. There is a KOA in town for anyone looking to camp or travel in an RV. Although the town is not large, there are several impressive restaurants. We definitely recommend the Thai Restaraunt. Prices were reasonable and the food was awesome. You can get square ice cream cones at the local ice cream parlor.
Our favorite part of this area is the easy access to everything by foot. You could spend your entire trip without stepping into your car. We did decide to venture to the little zoo located in Pocatello, Idaho. Pocatello is approximately 35 minutes from Lava Hot Springs. If you are looking for larger chain lodging facilities, this is always a great option.
We highly recommend this getaway. Travel time to this destination is 5.5-6 hours depending on traffic. You can go through Twin Falls, Idaho or you can go through Salt Lake City, Utah. Both options have inviting attractions along the way. If you are looking for an option for a three day weekend, this is a great trip!
