All You Need to Know About McGill Pre-Kindergarten

McGill Pre-Kindergarten

Pre-K is a great foundation builder for your child’s education.  McGill Pre-Kindergarten has a time-tested track record of success.  The staff is highly qualified and the atmosphere is awesome!  McGill school is known for its small community feel with strong family involvement.  The McGill Pre-Kindergarten class is nestled into this great learning environment!

What time are the classes for McGill Pre-Kindergarten?

AM Class: 7:50 – 11:00 am (mixed ages)

PM Class: 12:00 – 3:20 pm (mixed ages) (*lunch option available)

Who is eligible for these classes?

The priority schedule for enrollment is as follows:

McGill 4 yr olds

McGill 3 yr olds

Ely 4 yr olds

Ely 3 yr olds

The classroom is ADA compliant and they can accommodate special needs children.

*Ely students will need to have a Brigance Evaluation to aid in placement. Contact Jenny Wilson at 775.235.7722 or through Facebook to schedule a time to have the evaluation completed.

Who teaches the classes?

Jenny Wilson is the Lead Teacher.  She has a BA in Elementary Education and a Masters in Elementary Education.  Angela McVicars is the teaching assistant and Kathy Moskoff is the Parent Outreach Coordinator. They both have associates degrees.

McGill Pre-KindergartenSo what does a typical day look like?

The kids have a sign-in and morning orientation.  They then go to small groups and centers. Some of the options include; dramatic play, blocks, math, library, writing, science, water/sand table, and art. Both classes are given snacks during this time. They then proceed to clean-up and then head outside for outdoors play.

What curriculum and programs will my child be exposed to?

They teach Pre-K Core Knowledge, Teaching Strategies Creative Curriculum, and Leader in Me.

Will my child get to go on field trips?

The preschool goes on several field trips. In the past, they have done nature trips to experience the seasons.  They have also done trips to Bath Lumber, Ridley’s, the post office, and the fire station.  The teachers go to great lengths to tailor trips to match the interests of the kids.

What are the standards for parent involvement?

Parents are required to attend one entire class section once per month.  Of course, more options for volunteering are available. Parents also must complete required data collection.
